Ribbon tacking in a web offset press

On web offset presses, paper ribbons are cut lengthwise and then run through the press, one on top of the other, to the former fold.

What problems arise on the paper ribbons at high web speeds?

From a number of 3 strands, problems arise due to extreme wrinkling at the bottom ribbon. The ribbons can slip. Up to now, it was not possible to run with more than 3 ribbons because the upper ribbon would lift off. The web speed therefore had to be greatly reduced.

Our solution

The paper ribbons are temporarily electrostatically blocked by a targeted electrostatic charge. As a result, the ribbons run through the press more stably and at top speed.

Which Eltex components are used?


The POWER CHARGER units cover various performance stages and charging applications. They can be operated either with a supply voltage of 24 V DC or a line voltage in the range of 85 V – 264 V AC. The output voltage is 75 or 150 watts. A membrane keyboard or an optionally available, integrated touch panel is used to control the generators. POWER CHARGER units can be operated using analog operation or via digital fieldbus interfaces. At the market launch, a control system that uses CANopen and ModbusTCP are available.
